After passing the Healthcare Affordability Fund last year, New Mexico finally has the funding in place to make affordable healthcare available to all New Mexicans! But the funds are at risk of being diverted away!
Today at 1:30 pm, the House Appropriations and Finance Committee will hear the Insurance Superintendent’s proposal to use money from the Healthcare Affordability Fund to make healthcare more affordable for folks who get insurance on BeWellNM (the “Exchange”) or through a small business.
We need your help to email and call House Appropriations and Finance Committee members in support of this proposal!
The Legislative Finance Committee has not yet recommended adoption of the Insurance Superintendent’s proposal. And there’s a risk that they’ll recommend using the Healthcare Affordability Fund for other programs that wouldn’t make healthcare more affordable or expand options for uninsured people. The Legislature made a commitment to use this money to help uninsured New Mexico families, and we must protect the Healthcare Affordability fund’s integrity.
